What we need
We have a general media list, but need to build a list of journalists with (1) an interest in or (2) round (specific role) covering, the environment and climate change.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t find all the details in one go.
Just put in all the details you can find, provided you’ve put in the minimum information required:
- To identify the journalist exists (“First name”, “Last name”),
- Where they work (“Company”) , and
- Evidence they covered a climate and ecology topic by posting a link to a story in “Evidence”.
If you find, for example, that a journalist is a Climate Change reporter, when you put in “Climate Change Reporter” in the “Role” column, include a link to where you found that out.
Three ways you can help
You can either find a journalist, fill out missing details of an existing entry, or identify potential sources for finding journalists.
1. Find a journalist
Method 1: Via media topic pages
- Click on a media environment or climate change page
- Open a story in a new tab or window
- Check the authors details haven’t already been entered in the journalist table below
- Copy the authors details into the journalist table below
Method 2: Via google by topic
- Go to http://www.google.co.nz/
- Search for “New Zealand” AND “climate change” AND/OR “environment” AND/OR “extinction rebellion” etc
- Open a story in a new tab or window
- Check the authors details haven’t already been entered in the journalist table below
- Copy the authors details into the journalist table below
Method 3: Via google by role
- Go to http://www.google.co.nz/
- Search for “New Zealand” AND “journalist” AND “environment” AND/OR “climate change” etc
- Open a story in a new tab or window
- Check the authors details haven’t already been entered in the journalist table below
- Copy the authors details into the journalist table below
2. Fill out missing details
- Find an entry that isn’t complete.
- Search for the missing information, for example for a Twitter handle: i) earch google.com for “Journalists name” AND “twitter” or ii) search for the journalists name on http://twitter.com/
3. Identify potential sources for journalist names
- Read the existing list
- Choose a media company that is missing
- VIsit the media companies website
- Find the environment and/or climate change topic heading
- Copy and paste a link from each page into the media environment and climate change page table
Or
3. Search google.com for “Media company name” AND “Climate Change” AND/OR “environment”.
