Environment Canterbury (ECan) councillors will consider declaring a climate emergency at the regional council’s next meeting after talks with climate protesters.

Extinction Rebellion Ōtautahi recorded ECan chief executive Bill Bayfield agreeing on video to put the question on the May 16 meeting agenda.

The Christchurch group is part of an international movement established in the United Kingdom committed to non-violent action to prevent human extinction and prevent climate breakdown.
