Solidarity with Palestine

Weekly Rallies. Vigils. Blocking the Port.

Extinction Rebellion Tāmaki Makaurau liaison with Palestinian Youth Aotearoa is Adam. He is keeping us informed of the actions being taken and is contributing to the planning on our behalf. Contact: Message on 0273517026. Adam will get back to you.

At the rallies look for the XR Flag to walk with friends.

Watch the Instagram and Facebook posts by Palestinian Youth Aotearoa.

While we will be supportive of the Palestinian struggle, it’s not our struggle. We actively see the links of colonization, neoliberal capitalism and the climate crisis. We abhor all wars, the continuing stockpiling of weapons throughout the world. We acknowledge the violence in Myanmar, Ukraine, Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo, and more. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. XR members are attending the rallies in Tāmaki Makaurau with XR flags. We deliberately do not have a banner to ensure Palestinian flags are dominant, as requested by the organisers.

Restore Passenger Rail

Action Phase is beginning. After months of mobilising people are gathering to take disruptive nonviolent civil disobedience, appropriately just as the government is taking over, and COP28 negotiations begin. This Government is promising to roll back the hard won but minimal gains of the last government, to honour the Paris Agreement and lesson the effects of the climate crisis we are experiencing. (Remember West Port, Motueka, January floods, Cyclone Gabrielle, Southland drought. Already a fire in the Otautahi Port Hills, two cyclones early in the cyclone season). A strong message to this incoming government is unfortunately necessary.

To join RPR action it is necessary to attend a public meeting and a nonviolent action training. See social media and the website www.restorepassengerrail.nz

Guerilla Choir

The first outing of the Guerrilla Choir was at the Auckland Council Transport and Infrastructure Meeting Thursday 16th November. To address the city’s biggest polluter, transport, XR has previously submitted to the Committee for the establishment of congestion charges to lower emissions.

We did not know this was to be discussed until too late for a presentation. So we interrupted the meeting with singing. We urged the carrot and the stick: free public transport (frequent and reliable), with congestion charges. The Mayor was so delighted to be supported (like really!) that he shook our hands.

We now are planning a delegation to him to inch him towards focusing on emissions not merely roads congestion.

End of year Potluck and movie:

We are celebrating a full and busy year increasing the pressure for the political will to honour the Paris Agreement for 1.5 <2 degrees post-industrial temperature rise.

Sunday Dec 17th, 4.30. 40 Croydon St Mt Eden.

HeART of the Matter: And an inspirational movie about education for creativity, which will be sorely needed as we move further into the societal commotion caused by increasing unprecedented and not unexpected disruptive weather events. This is about the society we dream of, and has already been done. Great company. Great inspiration. As we take a well-earned break to be ready for 2024 with this new government.

END Urban SUVs. www.endurbansuvs.org

Kirsty has taken over organising this. We are getting more round stickers. Get the stickers then onto the street and on the worst emitting SUVs in the cities. A starter pack is only $10. Email [email protected]

Urban SUVs are killing people, killing the planet https://theecologist.org/2021/apr/07/what-actual-truck. Aotearoa New Zealand is failing in emissions reductions commitment, and the clean care rebate isn’t enough.
