Spring Rebellion

XR rebels from all around Aotearoa are gathering in Te Whanganui a Tara / Wellington for a Spring Rebellion from Monday 25 – Thur 28 October.

This will take the form of a series of smaller actions throughout the week.

Find the full list of events on Facebook here. Click on “See more” for the full list.

If Wellington gets a Covid community case, all events will be cancelled.

Open Letter to Jacinda Ardern

Tell COP: Go Hard & Go Early!

An XR group has written an Open Letter calling on Jacinda to grasp the opportunity of COP26 to show leadership on climate justice, both in Aotearoa and the world.

Sign the Open Letter heredeadline today Fri 22nd Oct.

Read more about the thinking behind it here.

Find out who else has signed it here.

From the Letter – “Here’s what we need to do NOW”

  • Stop fossil fuel use to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025 – yes 2025! (The latest IPCC report shows how essential this is.)
  • Plan for Aotearoa to ‘power down’ and consume less while we treat our energy sources as precious.
  • Repair and protect the land, water and wild areas we depend on for food and life.
  • Reshape the economy to meet people’s needs. Prioritise connection, fairness, quality of life, secure homes, clean water and healthy whānau over “wealth” and “growth” for their own sakes.
  • Set up a Te Tiriti based climate assembly that ensures equity between Tangata Whenua and Tangata Te Tiriti and gives a voice to ordinary people’s concerns, rather than the groups with powerful vested interests in the current system.

Presenting The Open Letter

If you’re in Pōneke next week, please join us on Tuesday 26 Oct to walk to Parliament through the CBD to present Teanau Tuiono and other MPs with the Open Letter.

We gather at Te Aro/Pigeon Park in Dixon St at 11.30am and reach Parliament by 1pm. A family-friendly event with much singing, some street theatre and the 2 huge XR Ōtautahi banners: “Korero Pono Mai! Mahia te Mahi! (Tell the Truth! Act Now!)”

Facebook event here. A song for the Open letter can be found here.

His latest video presentation. Long but really worth persisting with. Do some sewing or craftwork, make a cake or play solitaire while you listen, it seems to help.
