Kia ora you beautiful, brave rebels, whānau and friends. You are amazing!

On Monday we claimed the streets of Wellington with spontaneity, commitment, love and outrage. From 15-year-old Micah, environmental student Melanie, to great-grandmother Mary Rose of Tauranga, rebels faced arrest to deliver a clear message that business-as-usual is destroying the planet we love. We are running out of time. We simply have to rebel against it.

On Tuesday morning we delivered another powerful message outside Parliament – that climate injustice began with colonial injustice, and we can’t fix one without the other.

Before both those days, Rebel Camp was a colourful and crazy weekend of training for action and meeting wonderful people from Whangarei to Dunedin. A massive shout-out to all the people who made it happen, looked after each other, and the organisations who supported us (shout-outs below.)

If you couldn’t make it – don’t worry, we’re just getting started. We’re going to keep raising the alarm until Government wakes up and acts now to tackle the climate and ecological crisis.

Join us! Newcomers meeting – Sat 19 October

If you’re new to Extinction Rebellion and you want to help save the planet we love – welcome. We’d love to know you. Come and find out more at our next newcomers meeting.  You’ll meet Wellington people who care a lot about the same things you do. You’ll learn about Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa NZ’s kaupapa, our demands, and ways you can be involved.

We’re in the fight for our lives and we need everyone – whether you’re jazzed about direct action, music, theatre and generally raising the alarm – or you want to be behind the scenes helping with logistics, technology, art, training, legal, media, kai, systems, admin, fundraising, campaigns, yoga, you name it… Even if you don’t think you have specific skills, bring yourself, your ideas and enthusiasm. And don’t worry if this is all new to you – it was new to many of us too.

Time and location is still TBC – watch Facebook or check your emails because we’ll be in touch before then. Let us know if you have accessibility needs by emailing us.

Civil disobedience needs funding

Our action to launch the International Rebellion would have been impossible without funding. We need donations, big and small, to get the word out, cover costs for our next actions and for legal support. Please help us fund the rebellion now.

Let’s create the future we want together.

VOTE for the environment – do it now.

You only have til this Saturday to make sure we get the best leaders for our environment, transport, emissions and other important stuff. Here’s where to go. If you’re not sure who’s best for the planet, just copy Tim. He knows. How I voted in Wellington’s local body elections.

Tim hasn’t covered every ward and every Council! Happily, The Spinoff have built a tool to help people learn more about local government candidates  as well as interviewing candidates to let you know who are the climate deniers, fudgers and prevaricators.
