Thank you for your interest in Extinction Rebellion (XR) and for signing up to receive this newsletter!

First up, the most important information to get involved with your local branch:

Our weekly meeting takes place every Saturday from 11am to 1pm at Stillwaters Community at 327 Willis St, Te Aro. From 11am to 11.30am we will take time to welcome newcomers and answer questions about XR. From 11.30am onwards, we’ll be discussing XR business and logistics (you are welcome to stay on). .

Extinction Rebellion’s three demands are:

  1. Governments tell the truth about the ecological crisis
  2. Zero emissions and drawdown by 2025
  3. Participatory democracy including climate assemblies

It’s an awesome opportunity to be involved in the struggle for a better future – a liveable future – for us all, so we hope to see you at a meeting or an upcoming event.

Newtown Festival Recap

We had a great stall at Newtown Festival and signed up dozens of potential new members (including you!) and several 100 Wellingtonians signed our open letter to Parliament – please sign it here.

It took place on World Wildlife Day so here are some pictures of our endangered wildlife trying to save the humans.

We also supported the school girls organising Wellington’s School Strike 4 climate, which will take place this week across the country.

Newtown Community & Cultural Centre, cnr Rintoul and Colombo St – Doors open 5:30pm – feel free to join us early in setting up, grabbing some snacks and having a yarn.
Hear about Extinction Rebellion from the marine biologist Dr. Sea and see the Yes Men take on the issue of climate change in their latest film.
For those who don’t know, the Yes Men have done amazing work impersonating corporate representatives much to the frustration and loss of many of the world’s largest corporations.
Please bring a koha for the wonderful kai which we’ll be bringing.

  • Cuba Dupa Flashmob!

    31st March

Not all protests involve barricades and spray paint, engaging the public through more theatrical and lighthearted means can be an equally effective form of outreach, and nothing could be more ‘Wellington’ than FLASHMOBBING the heck out of CUBA DUPA!
Meet at Civic Square at 3pm. Learn More
