1. Name
a. This is the Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa New Zealand Working Group Policy 2019.
2. Commencement
a. This policy commences on July 2019.
3. Purpose
a. This purpose of this policy is to list the national working group mandates, domains and accountabilities.
4. Application
a. This policy applies to all national working groups.
5. Defined terms
a. In this document the following teams have specific meaning:
Term | Means |
Accountabilities | defines the ongoing work that needs to be done by a team, what that team is accountable for, and expectations others can have of a team. |
Domain | conveys ownership.
For example: a website domain means no other person or team can change the website without owning team’s permission. It could also apply to things like a Social Media account, contact list, bank account, script for a talk. |
Mandate or Purpose | Is the reason the team exists/what it is working towards, as a smaller part of the purpose of the whole organism. |
6. Policy
a. The work of Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa New Zealand at a national level is organised by working groups.
b. An official working group is recognised when:
i. It is given a mandate by the National Coordination Working Group or a parent working group,
ii. It has three or more members,
iii. It has a clear membership,
iv. It meets face-to-face regularly,
v. The External Coordinator is a named person with a contactable email address, and
vi. Key roles (inc Secretary, Facilitator, Internal Coordinator) are contactable by email, and where possible they are named.
c. Working groups are autonomous within their mandate and may create roles and delegate work to sub-working groups as required.
d. Working groups will maintain policy documents for sub-working groups, including accountabilities, domain and mandates. They are responsible for notifying the National Coordination Working Group of their existence and nature.
National Coordination Working Group
e. The group’s mandate is to:
i. Coordinate work at a national level, and
ii. Give mandates and delegate work to national working groups.
f. The group’s mandate does not include:
i. Constitutional decisions.
g. Membership is open to:
i. National Office Holders,
ii. Two representatives from each recognised branch,
iii. One coordinators for each recognised national working group,
iv. The Extinction Rebellion International Liaison to Oceania.
Action Working Group
h. The group’s mandate is to coordinate national actions.
Communications Working Group
i. The group’s mandate is to coordinate internal and external communication at a national level, including national infrastructure used by branches.
