XRŌ Public Talk: Heading for Extinction (and what to do about it) (Christchurch)
October 4, 2019, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Public Talk at the WEA, 1st Friday of every month, 7:30pm
We are facing an unprecedented global emergency.
Our planet is now in the midst of its sixth mass extinction of plants and animals.
On average 60% of the world’s wildlife has been wiped out since 1970. Humankind is staring in the face of imminent fresh water shortages, mass crop failure, desertification of arable land, escalating natural disasters and potentially two billion climate refugees by the end of the century.
In this public talk we will share the latest climate science on where our planet is heading, discuss options for mitigating the worst effects, and offer solutions through the study of social movements.
Our government has failed to take protective measures. To survive, it’s going to take everything we’ve got.
Everyone is welcome. There will be space to ask questions, space for grief, and opportunities to engage in the driving force for change with the Extinction Rebellion movement.
