The shadow within – the world without

Transforming ourselves and the planet
Ecofest XR Workshop
Facilitator: Sibylle Kiehne

The fossil fuel sector continues to hinder the necessary political action to lower emissions and secure a liveable planet. Now, more than ever, we need a strong climate activist movement to demand truth and urgent action.

This workshop explores the inner ecology of the body and mind, addressing the Yin and Yang imbalances that disconnect us from ourselves, others, and the environment. By healing within, we can transform the outer world, finding balance, strength, and connection. Together, we’ll discover how to engage meaningfully in climate activism and take effective, nonviolent action—an urgent call of our time.

As we face the climate crisis, with more frequent and extreme weather events, it’s easy to feel disconnected and powerless. Our basic needs for safety, connection, and autonomy can feel threatened, creating anxiety and patterns that block us from living as connected, empowered beings. This inner imbalance ripples into our relationships, communities, and the planet.

Drink and Kai: Please bring a contribution for a shared lunch – nothing fancy, just some sustenance. We will provide drinks and nibbles.

Venue: Friends Centre 113 Mt Eden Rd (Bus 25). Wheelchair accessible.

Te Tiriti & XR 3rd demand.

‘The Government must assist in the construction and adhere to the decisions reached by citizen assemblies, and the united tribes about the climate and the rights of all life forms. That health, wellbeing and prosperity be secured for the myriad forms of life in the universe. (The citizens’ assembly is established by the residents of a community through sortition.)

It is with this demand for structural change that XR Tamaki is actively supporting ToiTtūTe Tiriti Toitū Te Taiao. We are joining Matike Mai reading groups. As the Reading groups are open for new members, we will let you know. This is a good place to get an overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9w69uEsuzI

Local Body Elections

This year there is a great opportunity to effect change with little personal effort! Our forebears fought and died for us to be able to vote. The local body elections repeatedly have low numbers of us voting. Those who vote are older and wealthier.

Therefore, we are building with others a campaign to encourage voting in the coming local body elections. We will not tell people who to vote for. But we will:

  • · Have street stalls – please offer to help if you can
  • · Work with other groups running similar campaigns
  • · Identify policies that are consistent with the XR demands,
  • · Plus the usual: Posters, stickers, buttons etc.

Writing is shared for others to use in their own writing. The meetings are a great place to find out information and share our views and be enthused to get our ideas into the public arena.

XR Aotearoa principle:

Ka hāpaitia te Tino Rangatiratanga o ngā iwi taketake, ngā tangata whenua. He mea tūturu Te Tiriti o Waitangi me ōna mātāpono, he kawenata me ngā tangata tiriti, ā kia purea ngā iwi katoa i ngā tikanga whakaparahako a Ngā Kāwanatanga.

That the sovereignty of indigenous nations and aboriginal peoples are respected and endorsed. The Te Tiriti of Waitangi and its’ doctrine is fundamental, a covenant with Te Tiriti partners in a relationship, and it is envisaged that all peoples be liberated from colonial governments.
