Hikoi mō te Tiriti
Nov 12 Tuesday 6pm: Welcome the Carhoi from Whangarei to Te kamaka Marae (Hato Petera College Rd Northcote). Join Dennis Worley who is representing Extinction Rebellion Tāmaki Makaurau.
Nov 13 Wednesday 10 am (arrive by 9.30) Onepoto Domain, leaving at 10 am to walk across the Harbour Bridge to Takaparawhā (Bastion Point) Orakei Marae. Look for the Tāngata Tiriti Flags alongside the XR Flags.
Te Hikoi mō te Tiriti will continue to Ihumātao then Carkoi to Huntly, stopping for Karakia at the historical Rangiriri Paa, remembering the Land Wars battle.
Extinction Rebellion from inception has called for system change. Democracy has been subverted by capitalist vested interests and brought us to the climate crisis. It is the same vested interests that are attacking the hard fought for gains to have Te Tiriti honoured. Māori have been working for constitutional change for years. Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa sees the vision for constitutional change in Matike Mai as an important way forward for democracy here.
It is considered totally consistent with the Kaupapa of Extinction Rebellion to actively support te Hikoi. Therefore, we invite you indeed all Rebels to join us for this leg of Hikoi mot e Tiriti.
Getting there and back: From city side we will use public transport: Several bus routes from Lower Albert St and Fanshaw St by Vic Park are suitable. They each take about 20 minutes. No 923 or 966 or 97R or 97B or 95C. They each cost around $4.
At the other end we expect walking to Tamaki drive and getting the Tamaki Link bus will be the most convenient back to the CBD.
Fast Track Actions ongoing
A focus this week is also COP 29. It starts today. We are expecting that shamefully our country will be given the Fossil of the Day award. 350 is preparing a related action at Parliament. We are organizing an action at the Prime Ministers Electoral Office. To join the fun contact us directly.
This link is an opinion piece by Rebel Pat Basket: Simon Watts says buying more offshore climate credit is ‘unrealistic’. Pat looks at what that could mean – and what we should be doing to address our emissions.

The Third Demand of Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa:
Go Beyond Politics:
Me hanga, me whai anō Te Kāwanatanga i ngā whakatau a Te Runanga a Iwi, a te kotahitanga o ngā iwi mō te āhuarangi me ngā mōtika o ngā toiora katoa. Kia mau te hira me te oranga ki te tini me te mano puta noa i te ao. (He mea hanga Te Runanga i ngā tāngata korara o tētahi hāpori.)
The Government must assist in the construction and adhere to the decisions reached by citizen assemblies, and the united tribes about the climate and the rights of all life forms. That health, wellbeing and prosperity be secured for the myriad forms of life in the universe. (The citizens’ assembly is established by the residents of a community through sortition.)
