WE DIDN’T VOTE FOR THIS
IPSOS research has identified that more than two thirds of us Kiwis think that the economy is rigged to advantage the rich and powerful.
And one million of us who could have voted in October didn’t.
It’s time for system change
In this newsletter:
- We didn’t vote for this – Mobilising for system change
- Agit-Prop – Workshops coming. Then actions
- Climate Café 1st Sundays – getting to know us.

We didn’t vote for this
This is the new slogan for a new campaign aiming to mobilise the activist groups and get real change. Our political system has given us decades of inaction over the climate, struggling health and education systems, infrastructure falling apart and increasing in equity. Manty groups have organized around various issues and have been writing submissions, petitioning, organizing delegations and protesting. Many of these groups are calling for system change. Now with this coalition government there is significant disquiet.
We have a moment in time to bring about the system change for the shared vision of a just sustainable equitable society.
We will be working to establish a working group to make this happen. Working together, people power, we can do this. It have happened before. We can make this happen now.
Internationally, Extinction Rebellion has called for a new stage of democracy with citizens assemblies. We are so fortunate in Aotearoa that Māori have done a lot of work on system change captured in the document Matike Mai.

Agit-Prop
Can you join an Agit-Prop Group? Using theatre/acting to get people (the 80% concerned about the climate and the one million who did not vote) pointedly laughing and wanting change, then excited to vote for change in the next election.
No acting experience needed. We have a first workshop in June and another workshop with visiting facilitator Josia. The workshops will focus on body work, Breathing, being in role, staying in role.
Palestinian Rallies
This campaign is international. Millions are seeing the hypocrisy, the colonization, the genocide. Arrests are happening in the USA. This is all having the desired effect as the international pressure continues to build for a ceasefire and a permanent solution.
Anzac Day 3 pm the Band Rotunda in the Domain, acknowledging the victims of this genocidal war.

Nāku, nāhau ka ora ai tātou. Ko te mahi me tōna hua e rite ana, e tika ana. Kia ngākau nui, kia hākoakoa, kia pai te wairua i roto i ēnei mahi, i ēnei āhuatanga katoa.
With your assistance and mine we will survive. The labour and results are one and the same, and valid. Be valiant and resolute, be buoyant, let your spirit be tranquil in these efforts, in all of these circumstances.
