Tena koe,
VOTE:
VOTE CLIMATE
As we build towards the election there is so much happening: Climate Shift, Tapatahi, Restore Passenger Rail, Stop Big Agri Business, and our VOTE CLIMATE.
We are up against the strong opposition of the elite corporates operating in an unfettered capitalist economic environment. They will work the system to get a government that favours them.
12% of homes are reported today as at high risk of flooding as we move further into the climate crisis. Plus poverty, homelessness, run down public health services. Merely collateral damage in this neo-liberal economic system of unfettered capitalism.
It is our responsibility at this time, to step up, do more, step beyond our comfort zone. It is only together that we can make the changes to minimize the climate crisis, to keep the planet livable.

Auckland Transport Board Meeting
Tuesday 28th August 9.30 Meeting Room 1.04; 20 Viaduct Harbour Ave.
At the June Meeting they got a shake up with Rebels sitting in the front row holding placards. And the leaving intern giving them direction making us want to dance with joy. The old paradigm and old professionals is what got us here and created the problems we are all keen to leave behind (congestion, low accessibility, air pollution, high emissions, daily road trauma, widespread physical inactivity, poor public health, crippling transport costs… and looming over all of us, climate change).

Here’s lost opportunities: Opportunities for Changing Direction (greaterauckland.org.nz)
Mairi is presenting at the August meeting. Please come along to help strengthen the message: we must get the city’s transport emissions down. Urgently.
END Urban SUVs
Have you got your starter pack (only $10)? Are you stickering the SUVs in your neck of the woods? Contact [email protected]
Urban SUVs are killing people, killing the planet https://theecologist.org/2021/apr/07/what-actual-truck. Aotearoa New Zealand is failing in emissions reductions commitment, and the clean care rebate isn’t enough.
Restore Passenger Rail Action
Did you join Extinction Rebellion on the promise of effective non-violent disruptive action to force the political will to address the climate crisis? Remember what got us women’s vote, 40 hour working week, annual leave, sick pay etc, human rights we now take for granted, and so much more?
Restore Passenger Rail is part of an international coalition A22 which is doing just this. Currently there is mobilization moving in to an action phase before the election. Join the online welcome talk.
These talks discuss many things including how resisting injustice and standing up for what is right is a visceral, beautiful experience and part of what it means to be human at this time.
CBD Fortnightly CLIMATE CAFÉ:

Living the Change: Whau Climate Action
Extinction Rebellion Tāmaki Makaurau was delighted to be invited to talk at the showing of the movie Living The Change. Jill & Steve observed that living the change is great but we need the political will to get the emissions down to keep the planet liveable. Adam did the front of house talking with people as they left.

Loving kindness to all life and life systems is paramount, it is just that we devote time to mourn the loss of our siblings, of nations, of all life. From utter grief proper action will emerge to truly remedy our condition.
Race to zero emissions for 1.5 or <2 degrees
“More people to voting increases the probability of a Labour Green Te Pati Māori coalition” what evidence do you have that non-voters want to vote for these parties? What is the track record of these parties that suggests that they will have any substantial effect on climate change?
“…elite corporates operating in an unfettered capitalist economic environment. They will work the system to get a government that favours them.” Whoever you vote for will be working for the elite corporations. What makes you think they won’t. Putting your trust in politicians is foolish.
