Cows ran mad around Wellington City today as Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists rebelled against industrial-scale dairying and its contribution to the climate and ecological crisis. Cows held a strike, visiting the various agencies responsible.
“The cows’ requests have been fairly reasonable so far, they want shorter work weeks, less crowding, and a dry place to lie down in winter. Oh and they want us to clean up the rivers, they’re a mess.”
Says Michael Apathy, a supporter of the cow strike.
Most of the cows started their day by entertaining commuters with a flash mob at the railway station. While others, hoping to gather support from the humans, handed out fliers to a bemused audience.
The cows then began their strike with a picketing line outside MPI offices, holding signs that say “End Mud Farms” and “Dairy Gone Mad”.
“The cows aren’t happy with the state of things. They’re copping flack for ruining the rivers, but MPI haven’t even sent welfare inspectors to get them out the mud yet.”
Says XR spokesperson Siana Fitzjohn.
“Nobody is stoked with industrial dairying at the moment, and we’re wondering why it’s still a thing.”
Says Fitzjohn.
Next the cows visited the Fonterra office on Lambton Quay and demanded an explanation. Unfortunately no one would come down to meet with the cows. The cows, determined to be heard, left a message painted on the windows as they were leaving. One of the cows was arrested for ‘Wilfull Damage’.
“OH THE IRONY!” said the arrested cow.
The cows ended their strike by congregating at government owned PAMU to request better working conditions from one of their worst employers. The cows dumped filthy, smelly mud (from PAMU farms) on the steps of the PAMU building…promising Warren Parker that they would clean it up once PAMU cleans up THEIR act.
