SPRING REBELLION October 23 – 28

New Dates October 23 to 28.

Yes we are off to the seat of political power to get the Demands heard where it matters. Just before COP 26, delivering a letter to the Prime Minister, lobbying, picketing, and some fun disruptive actions are being planned.

Currently 4 of us are sharing transport to travel down on Saturday 23, sleeping at the Camp that night. We have accommodation for 6 in the YMCA. There is room for more. Join in to meet the great people who are Rebelling with us, for planning, learning and rebelling.

We must get to zero emissions by 2025 to keep to less than 2 degrees postindustrial planetary temperature rise.

Auckland Climate Festival

Have you discovered this festival? It is something we would have considered activism is the past. Now it is Mainstream! The Overton Window has shifted!

Look for the wide, varied and exciting workshops, both online and in person. Included is transitional lifestyle content, plus town planning and political encouragement panel discussions. We are negotiating for an XR info Evening to be part of the festival.

Open Letter to the Prime Minister and Minister for Climate Change

A personal letter putting relationships first while being grounded firmly in the science of the IPCC report. We request that this is taken to COP26 as the platform to message world’s leaders.                It draws on key statements the PM has used publicly, exhorts her to offer leadership and encouragement to all leaders and their peoples to go ‘hard and go early’ as Aotearoa has done fighting the Covid Pandemic.                                                                                                               The letter makes clear statements of what Aotearoa New Zealand needs to do now, and it emphasises how imperative it is to be net zero CO2 by 2025 pointing to the urgency in the IPCC report.                    We encourage the PM to use her proven leadership qualities to take Aotearoa New Zealand forward as a team, working in a fair manner, and as an example to inspire the world.

We’ve done it before, we can do it again

Leafleting Huntly

We were excited to be leafleting as soon as we are in Level 2. Get beyond the Covid blues and have a fun day going to Huntly

It is time for Genesis to put coal generation of electricity behind them. They know this but are not acting fast enough with renewable generation of electricity to keep the planet livable. Extinction Rebellion is giving them a helping hand and letting the citizens of Huntly know. Contact XR Tamaki Makaurau to add your name for a great day with wonderful people. Shared transport. Lunch together somewhere good.

Please contact XR Tamaki Makaurau if you are able to help with this mahe.

COP 26: Rise up for the Climate Nov 3-7

Activist from across Aotearoa are teaming up for four days of skill-sharing, wānanga, networking and non-violent direct actions. The 5th of November is the day colonial troops invaded Parihaka after 22 years of bloody war across the country for land and resources. A war which has never ended and links directly to ruling class oppression, white supremacy, extractivism and now global warming. The 6th of November is a Global Day of Action for Climate Justice.

We are interested in your involvement with XR, views and opinions, and background. Your participation is welcome and important to improve our knowledge and understanding of Extinction Rebellion as an international movement, as well as environmental movements across the world more generally.

Demand Two:

In Aotearoa the Extinction Rebellion Demands from the UK have been taken in to Te Ao Māori context, discussed, written in Te Reo Māori, then translated into English.

The Government must arrest with urgency the extinction of the diversity of life, to achieve net zero carbon and reduce toxic gas emissions by 2025. They must do this briskly and immediately with genuine reliability to avoid catastrophic change.
