TENA KOUTOU KATOA

SPRING REBELLION

September 26 to 29.

Book your holidays. Join the bus to the seat of Parliament. Help us get the urgency of the climate crisis across to the people who can make a difference. Hold them accountable.

Four days of action to get a real climate emergency declared and enacted, guided by Citizens Assemblies consistent with Tiriti O Waitangi.

Get ready for action in the seat of parliament.

We are targeting Parliament for not taking strong action required to keep the planet livable. Decisions are being made. Will we hold a Citizens Assembly on the Front Lawn? Will we encircle the Beehive? Will we shut down polluters? Will we…? It is up to us all to make this rebellion happen.

A hikoi from Otautahi Christchurch, a convoy from Otepoti Dunedin, plus Wairarapa, Palmerston North, Whanganui a Tara Wellington and of course Tamaki Makaurau Auckland.

Help get the message through to the laggards in Parliament. Our survival depends on urgent action. Now!

Nonviolent action training – online

It is best that you have done at least one nonviolent action training before you go to the Spring Rebellion.

September 1 & 8. At your home, online. At 9.30pm. This allows for people across Australia to attend.

This online nonviolent action Training is in collaboration with Extinction Rebellion Australia. Perfect for those of us who live out of the main centres or for whatever reason are not getting to a face to face Workshop.

Session One helps us to appreciate the complexity of the moral imperative of citizen disobedience in a democracy.

Session Two considers actions that can lead to arrest and the related consequences.

This is a great opportunity to get focused and thinking about these deep citizenship issues. Please share around, commit to both sessions, with a friend or of course just you. You will meet some great people who are part of this rebellion for life.

Citizens Assembly working group

There is increasing activity for creating a climate crisis Citizens Assembly and we’d love you to join the conversation to help this become a reality.

Miro Zaleta is initiating an XR Tamaki Makaurau Citizens Assembly Working Group. He is calling a first meeting to get conversations happening. This meeting has the purpose of getting clearer on the purpose, scope and shape of the project and gauging the level of interest and availability for the project among participants.

Wednesday Sept 1st (Covid allowing) 6.30 at Gribblehirst Hup Cabbage Tree Swamp Rd off Sandringham Rd. Please register your interest by …

Please register and read the background documents here: registration and background documents

We are in collaboration with Rebel Taane Feary who has created this FB Page: Taane Feary’s created FB page

Taane is working hard with a wide network and is planning a Climate Citizens Assembly by the end of the year. Te Waka Hourua (XR Māori Caucus) is working hard for Citizens Assemblies.

This mahe is also consistent with the significant work done by Māori for constitutional change required to honour Te Tiriti O Waitangi as reported in Matiki Mai: https://nwo.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/MatikeMaiAotearoa25Jan16.pdf

Banner making

With Thanks to Ross for the design and Helen and Val for making a stunning banner for the next BP action. Once we are out of lockdown… Please join us keeping up the pressure on this international polluter holding the world to ransom for the sake of profits. They say they are doing well with changing their operations to be ecologically friendly. But they are still pumping oil & gas and exploring for more. We say not good enough and will let them know. We will need banner holders, leafleters etc. Date and time to come

Leafleting Huntly

We were excited to be doing this Friday 20th. But it is postponed because of Covid Lockdown.

But hey wait for the new time to be announced

It is time for Genesis to put coal generation of electricity behind them. They know this but are not acting fast enough with renewable generation of electricity to keep the planet livable. Extinction Rebellion is giving them a helping hand and letting the citizens of Huntly know. Have a fun day outing to Huntly. Hand out leaflet. Put leaflets in letter boxes. Contact Caril to add your name for a great day with wonderful people. Shared transport. Lunch together somewhere good.

COP 25

It seems that we are getting international commitment to zero emissions by 2030. It is good that the world leaders are beginning to face the right direction.

Policies enacted as a result of Paris Agreement national emission-reduction commitments are likely to result in warming of around 3°C by 2100, and perhaps 4°C or more when all the feedbacks and system non-linearities are considered. 3°C of warming is described as “catastrophic”, and 4°C likely to be incompatible with the maintenance of human civilisation

Tamaki Makaurau action planning

Help make the action happen, 6.30pm the 2nd & 4th Mondays at Friends House 113 Mt Eden Rd. Always drinks and nibbles and lots of laughter. Next meeting is June 28th. Love to see you.

We are planning lots of actions, having heaps of fun and generally getting significant businesses plus local and central government know the population is behind them doing what they know must be done to keep the planet livable and to stop the ecocide. Often on a Friday.

Can’t join actions?

Please help us financially. We are struggling with funding this vital mahe. Make a donation through https://extinctionrebellion.nz/

To get to know Extinction rebellion a little more you are invited to listen to this You Tube presentation ‘What you need to know about the climate crisis and what to do about it’. XR youtube presentation

Demand Two:

In Aotearoa the Extinction Rebellion Demands from the UK have been taken in to Te Ao Māori context, discussed, written in Te Reo Māori, then translated into English.

The Government must arrest with urgency the extinction of the diversity of life, to achieve net zero carbon and reduce toxic gas emissions by 2025. They must do this briskly and immediately with genuine reliability to avoid catastrophic change.
