GAS = MORE HOT AIR!
Another exciting week has arrived. On Thursday we will disrupt the NZ Gas Forum, who are meeting in Christchurch this week.
Action: Thursday 31 Oct, 7am – 7pm at Rydges Hotel Latimer Square, Christchurch
Briefing & training: Wednesday 30 Oct, 6pm – 9pm at South Brighton Community Hall, 74 Beatty St, South New Brighton
The NZ Gas Forum is coming to Ōtautahi/Christchurch on 30 October to 1 November to promote the expansion of gas in Aotearoa/NZ. They want more gas, more profit and more destruction. We want a future. We are in a climate and ecological emergency. Gas is not a transition fuel. There is no room for any fossil fuels in our future. People around the world are saying “ENOUGH” to gas and other polluting industries, and so are we.
The natural gas industry is as bad as the coal industry in fueling climate breakdown; the powerful greenhouse gas methane leaks into the atmosphere from across the production and distribution system.
On Thursday we will peacefully resist the gas industry by using people power to delay and disrupt the conference as much as possible. We are committed to strict non-violence – this will be a peaceful protest. There will be something for everyone on the day with different levels of engagement- from singing through to direct action – and plenty of other roles and activities.
We’ll have a Non Violent Direct Action training and briefing for this event the night before Wed 30 Oct 6pm – 9pm at the South Brighton Community Centre, 74 Beatty Street, South New Brighton. Come along to this especially if you are interested in taking a red or orange role. Food provided!
If you can’t make the NVDA training, don’t worry, it is still fine to participate in the peaceful action on Thursday. There are many different levels of engagement, something to suit everybody!
Just keep your eyes on the Facebook event or website for more details of where to go on the morning of the 31st, and if you can bring along some vegan food to share, some noise-making devices , placards or just yourself.
PUT NZ FIRST , NOT THE COAL AND OIL COMPANIES!
Last Saturday we were again at Rydges Hotel – about 50 Extinction Rebellion supporters disrupted NZ First’s annual conference. We entered Rydges as Winston Peters was giving his Leader’s public address and made our presence known with placards, banners, drums and singing. We gave those coming into the talk a copy of an Open Letter to Winston, asking him to stop blocking all the climate action initiatives that his Coalition partners try to get through.
FORGETMENOT, SAYS TUSKER TO NEW CCC COUNCILLORS
– this Elephant’s still In the Room!
Incoming Chch City Council councilors were greeted by Tusker and friends at the start of the inaugural council meeting at Town Hall last week. A small pleasant event to keep the Elephant In The Room at the forefront of their minds.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE WEEK OF ACTION?
