Background
This document summarises the decisions, tasks, volunteers and discussion about this topic during the National Digital Hui Jan 2019.
Goal
To discuss XR UK and XR International’s goals and identify how they could be applied here and if we have any additional goals for Aotearoa New Zealand.
Pre-reading
Summary
The following draft goals were suggested:
We adopt XR International’s global goals. In support of this, XRANZ’s goals are to:
1) Get local and national government to declare a climate emergency;
2) Expand public visibility and engagement through engaging actions which generate public interest and information; [wording requires improvement]
3) Hold government and all agencies to account in their actions in meeting the global goals;
4) Actively facilitate public participation in working together to meet the global goals.
These will be further rewritten to reflect the specifics of Aotearoa’s situation including Te Tiriti and Tangata Whenua. We can be a voice for the Pacific – many Pacific communities have no voice.
